Specializing in Lake Trout

Central Wisconsin's Big Green Lake has been Dennis Walker's professional territory for more than 40 years.

For years the native fishing guide had a distinction few such professionals can offer.  He once caught a 47 inch, 34 1/2 pound lake trout, that held the state record for 14 years.  That's a notable enough achievement for an outdoor guide.   It's even more remarkable when you consider Walker caught the fish when he was just twelve years old.

We have an outstanding lake here.  It's waters are deep and clear, with not only a variety of structure, but also a variety of fish ranging from lake trout to pan fish.

Current Fishing Report

Thursday, September 02, 2010

****BIG GREEN LAKE UPDATE; Most fishing on Big Green at this time has been very consistent of the last few weeks. The key is to find the fish that are biting. Are water temps. 75* to 80s* are still on the high end for this time of the summer. And where has are summer gone?? the last Big summer Holiday weekend is here. It seems like we just celebrated Memorial Day.

****FISHING REPORT; PANFISH mainly Bluegill. They are in the deeper water next to and in the weeds. Best setup has been drop-shot rigs or fishing with a bobber. Small worms has been the best bait.

****NORTHERN; Are still coming from the deep water 25 to 40 feet. Live bait chubs or suckers has been the best trolled real slow along bottom at these depths.

****SMALLMOUTH & LARGEMOUTH BASS; Look for the Smallmouth by the rocky shorelines and at the edge of the deep weedlines. Over the rocks fish with helgramites, nightcrawlers, minnows and small artifical baits [crankbaits, tubetype, spinners]. Largemouth will be in the weeds and around docks. Spinners best here.

****LAKE TROUT; They are mostly over the deep water suspended down 70 to 125 feet. Dodger and minnow or small spoons fished plain at these depths will work when you find the ones that are hungery. On some days this can be tough you just have to cover alot of water. You can also find these Trout on bottom along the deep dropoffs.

****WALLEYE; Has slowed some. They still can be caught over the weeds with nightcrawler harrness setup. Troll slow just over the weeds in 15 to 20 feet of water. Best in the early part of the day and again later in the day and after dark.

****WHITEBASS; You can get lots of small Whitebass 4 to 6 inches off the east end Inlet Rd. Troll with small silver spinners in 15 to 30 feet of water fish down 10 to 25 feet. Also there are some bigger Whitebass over thr deep water. Here fish with a dipsy diver dodger and spinner setup.

****Have a great Labor Day Weekend and be safe.
